The Karns High School band program was established in 1954. Since then, the program has grown to encompass many different ensembles and includes more students then ever. This proud tradition continues today with the current Karns Band.
The Karns High School band program is comprised of various components that perform and compete at the local, state, and national levels. This comprehensive program offers students an educational experience through music, performance, life lessons, and opportunities that extend beyond a traditional classroom.
To be a member of the Karns High School Marching Band, the student must be enrolled in the proper Marching Band period during the fall semester. Each student must comply with all rules and regulations for that particular organization.
The student agrees to attend summer rehearsals (exceptions through director approval) and is required to attend band camp and any additional camps required of their sections (guard and percussion). The directors must approve exceptions in advance. Each member must meet all financial obligations and must attend all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances (competitions, parades, and football games).
Under the guidance of Directors, Mr. Jimbo Crawford, Mr. Cody Foster, and Mr. Mark Bowling, the Karns Band Program has routinely influenced hundreds of high school students. The tradition set in place by former directors such as Jack Thomas, Jim Rector, Doug Wheeling and others proudly continues today. Our students have learned that with hard work and dedication anything is possible. Rewards for this dedication include travel and performance throughout our nation, representing Knox County and the State of Tennessee. In addition, students from the Karns Band program typically become life-long musicians and are often seen performing in college bands.
